Matakana Farmer's Market and surroundings
This market takes place every Saturday from 9am - 1pm in winter and in summer from 8am - 1pm. Stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers from up to 31 local growers and food producers, including a myriad of other products such as swiss organic chocolate specialities, wheat and dairy free treats, breads, pickles, mustards and the list goes on. A great place to start your morning with freshly brewed espresso coffee, a hearty breakfast and a wander by the river while local musicians play live music adding to the already friendly and relaxed atmosphere. From north Auckland, it takes about an 1 1/2 to drive to Matakana.

All the produce were beautifully displayed. The mandarins table
were one of my favourites with their bright orange bags
A bicycle basket waiting to be filled with yummy treats
The aroma of smoked garlic filled the air .... yummmm!
Mushrooms harvested from a bottle
Another aroma that lead you by the nose was the that of the freshly baked breads
The good old country - honesty boxes are seen everywhere on the road
This image was taken at Matakana Country Park where about ninety local
and regional crafts people sell their goods on commission basis. This park is
open 7 days a week from 9:00am to 5:00pm
At Matakana Country Park I discovered
two guineafowl wondering around on the farmyard
Nature has changed all the vineyards, for which Matakana is known,
into beautiful, warm autumn colours
